Measuring the float level (Dell'Orto VHB or PHF carburettors) is a simple operation but one that must be carried out carefully.
Method
- Remove the carburettor (or the rack on 1000 and 1200 engines) and lay it flat on a horizontal surface, throttle bore vertical, float spindle facing up.
- In this position, the float should rest on the needle under its own weight, the needle just closed and its spring (on some carburettors) not compressed.
- Beware of the errors in the RMT (workshop manual): the correct measurement is 25 mm for the VHB and 18 mm for the PHF!
